Otacool 2 !!!
And so, with the success of the book depicting pictures of the rooms of Otaku's around the world,. Danny Choo has come back with the idea of having a book full of Cosplayers from all over the globe!
What is Otacool 2?
Kotobukiya is pleased to announce the arrival of OTACOOL 2: WORLDWIDE COSPLAYERS in April 2010! In collaboration with Danny Choo and the Internet's largest cosplay destination Cure, OTACOOL 2 promises even more stimulating and groundbreaking content. In keeping with the same concept of "OTAKU is COOL", the next volume of OTACOOL will focus on cosplayers from around the world!
Remind me what Otacool is
In November 2009, Kotobukiya released the milestone publication OTACOOL: WORLDWIDE OTAKU ROOMS in collaboration with Danny Choo. Gathering international media attention, this publication received critical acclaim for its CGM (Consumer Generated Media) approach, where content is created through the Internet in collaboration with numerous fans and readers.
How do I become part of this bodaciousness?
If you are a cosplayer and want to be in the book, please go to figure.fm and signup for an account.
Then submit the following using the uploader.
- Your cosplay photos - Full body, upper body, head shots (2 or more of each)
- Name (including dannychoo.com Nick Name)
- Age
- Country of residence
- Years of cosplay
- Favorite cosplay character
- Your website/twitter or facebook link
- Brief statement
So for example:-Name: Danny Choo
Age: 102
Country of residence: Japon
Years of cosplay: 50
Favorite cosplay character: Any oppai character
Your website/twitter or facebook link: http://dannychoo.com
Brief statement: Identify and live your passion and the rest will just follow - it always does.
Important stuff!
- Please tag all your entries "otacool, otacool2, otacoolcosplay" (copy n paste everything between the quotes)
- If you forget to tag your entry with the above tags then your original photos are *not* saved on the server. We need high res photos (less than 3MB each) for printing so make sure you add those tags when you upload your photos.
- You *must* add those tags when you upload your photos and not after!
- Also, we will be looking at entries that are only tagged with "otacool, otacool2, otacoolcosplay"
- Upload all images in a single post! On your first upload you can only add one photo but after you hit "save" then you will see a thumbnail of your photo with "manage images" - click to add more photos.
- If its your first time posting, your photos dont appear on the top page until your account has been approved which is usually within 24 hours - sometimes within minutes.
- Submissions are *open now* and you got until mid Feb but we may close submissions earlier if there are a load of entries.
- There are 24 empty slots on the cover for your face! The quicker you submit your photos, the higher the chance of you being on the cover because we need the final cover for marketing purposes.
- There will be Otacool events held worldwide. Depending on the area you live in, if you are in the book then you will most likely be invited to the event.
- Incredible cosplayers are very most likely to live their passion by working with other top brands in Japan on other projects.
To submit, CLICK HERE !!!!
My petrified expression. The Victory sign was a failed attempt to look less shocked. lulz
I’m still wondering if I should submit mine or not. As a worldwide submission also means a worldwide competition . *Shivers and hides in cupboard*
Oh! Other than Cosplays, Otacool is also looking for illustrators to draw Danny Choo’s Site Mascot! So, illustrator/Artist, do check it out yea?

AFA: My day as a CosPa Booth Cosplayer
As you guys already know, for AFA Day One, I was with the CosPa/KKnM booth, working as their booth cosplayer/model.
So I just got some photos from the Booth’s official Photographer, Valefor and thought I’d share some photos with you guys because…. I’m sure no one else would have these xD Many many thanks to Valefor for allowing me to post these photos here, much magnanimous attitude yeah :D?
Anyway, nuff talk. On to the photos!
Start of the first day! The Booth workers are all catching a short breakfast before the event doors open to welcome a gushing stream of excited fans!
Booth models/cosplayers of the 1st day strikes a pose with the booth before the mad gush! I’m not inside because I was late TT___TT
And the mad queuing begins!! These people are really happy to be here man! Look at the grins xD
Seriously…the queue just goes on and on its quite scary!
The CosPa booth was also selling DC Figurines :D I love the side merchandise they sold there. There were mini socks, school shoes and even UNDERWEAR HOMG CRAZEE JAPANESE >O!
The detail and quality of the figurines amazes me. I’ve never been a fan of figurines and dolfies but the dedication to minute details in these babies here made me raise my brows in surprise.
Shit. I forgot the objective of this post was to blog about my experience as a booth model/cosplayer. Digressed, piesay.
Well, it was pretty swell. The whole experience as a Booth Girl I mean =)
And hanging out with the other booth cosers for such a long time really allowed us to know each other better. We fooled around a lot.
Asuka: Why are you cuter than me?! *punches you*
Okay,I fooled around a lot. The other girls pretty much just tolerated my randomness and played a long.
Chocolime’s always so In character ~ Gotta give it to her xD!
The job itself, no joke, was freaking tiring. And I mean it physically!!! Near 7 straight hours of constant standing is no joke. Anyone who works in the retail service line should understand our pain. Thank goodness for me, Asuka wears flat comfortable school shoe (which happens to be my shana/Haruhi shoes xD)
The strain on the feet was really bad and for the most part of the job, I felt like a useless vase. Simply because, other than garnering attention to the booth and allowing people to take photos of me….there was nothing else I could do. Oh, we gave out flyers too… but even that wasn’t much of a challenge.
But meh… I really shouldn’t/can’t complain more about a job that pays me to look pretty yeah?
Getting the crowd’s attention for the game! Kawoo ish sooo cute here!
The best part of the job was the Ja-Ken-Pon Games
We all really enjoyed playing the games with the crowd. And we were all counting down to the next session!
Well, we didn’t really play with the crowd except I personally did once. but that was because we didn’t managed to get an even number of participants.
I really liked how this job allows me to look at our local community/fandom in another angle. And I love rallying for attention and participation for the games. Make me feel like I’m back in highschool or something hahaha!
The games really helped to kick us back alive because like I said, for most part of the job, we were just randomly standing around feeling rather bored.
Day One’s first Winner emerged! Yeays~
ChocoLime as Kamikita Komari from little Busters!
Kawoo as Yui from K-on!
Inuran as Black Rock Shooter
Myself as Asuka Langley from Evangelion
Back to the part about giving me different perspective.
I love observing the different reaction/expression on the crowd’s face when we were doing the game. Some took a lot of coaxing to participate, some were awkward but secretly keen on playing while some were very upfront with their desire to play.
By the 2nd game (which was at 2pm), there were already people coming up to ask when the next game would be and express regrets about missing the previous session.
That was pretty heartening to me =) Firstly it kinda in a very indirectly way meant we did a good job hyping the crowd up.
And the genuine smiles on their faces when they played gave me a huge pat on the shoulder =)
It made me felt sincerely happy that these people who shared the same fandom as me, shared the same country as me and high likely, shared the same worries, anxieties, unhappiness and life stresses as me, was able to to drop their worldly fatigue and social restrictions and enjoy themselves once in a while .
Yes, I know, I think too much =_=||
In case you don’t know, the CosPa booth is a partnership with the true blue CosPa Company. And here we are posing with the CEO of CosPa.
Other than fatigue, the other part of the job that took some toil on us was hunger! We have our lunch breaks yeah, but being constantly on your feet meant you burn more energy. So yeah, you get the point.
There was a part where Chocolime suddenly popped out from the baggage room with a lollipop and PockY. HOMG FOOD!!!!!!
And we all pounced on to it !!! *snatch*
I don’t remember how I seemed to have lost the battle……
But mweh. *flaps hand*
And I don’t remember what the hell was I doing at that time to be caught in such an unglam and FUNNY position! LOLS. Valefor must be a genius at stalking. LOLs, Valefor go be a PI!
Asuka Camwhoring with Hetalia! Dan was so shuai :D
Then again, being ugly is nothing new to me. I’m constantly doing OOC stuffs which i really shouldn’t but mweh=_=. Please don’t flame me hokay….. I’m just having fun :P
And the Yui half heartedly decides to offer poor starving Asuka some pocky. About time too!
Another dig I have with the job was the wake up time. We had to be ready by 9:45am and that is a difficult task for someone who needs near 2 hours to get ready. *diiess*
Oh, and because of the job, it was also the first time I reached AFA so early in the morning. And I witnessed for myself the MASSIVE crowd waiting to go in!!!!
It was honestly freakin scary and I HATE crowded places!!! Plus, I couldn’t make out exactly which gate was the entrance and couldn’t push myself through the crowd to find out either! In the end, I could only enter the event hall along with the crowd . It felt like we were some 3rd world country citizens with a starving tummy queuing up for rations =_=|||.
The Cosplay Booth models/Cosplayers for Day 2 !
Updates:
ChocoLime as Asakusa Nemu from Da Capo II !
Ringo as Tsumugi from K-on!
Inuran as Black Rock Shooter
Chocolime as Asuka Langley from Evangelion
Sorry…. I have no idea what the other two ladies were cosplaying as =/
Pretty babes! Chocolime looks so dulan here xD
Oh! And I gotta commend on the KKnM & CosPa Booth workers. They sure put in a lot of effort to make sure everything was orderly and unchaotic. I take my hats off for them=)
One of KKnM’s Owner with Danny Choo. Apparently they are friends. So maybe that explains why Danny Choo’s booth is just beside KKnM and CosPa’s Booth. And I guess that’s also why Danny Choo was willing to come over to the booth to play Jan-Ken-Po with us.
Danny Choo and Alodia plays Ja-Ken_pon with us at AFA!
Ashley and Alodia with Danny Choo. I think they were cosplaying Danny Choo’s website mascot :D
I heard they came back to the booth again on day2! :D
She is really beautiful isn’t she =)! Though I’d much preferred it if she didn’t use such shiny material for the costume . A little glaring with flash.
Okay, I digressed again…… my lids are shutting so I’m off to bed. Hope you peeps had fun reading/watching the pics. See how fun the CosPa and KKnM booth is xD? Not only do you get authentic Japanese merchandise, you can also play exciting games , win prizes and catch celebs like Danny Choo, Alodia and Ashley! So yeah, look out for us again at the next AFA XD!!!
Omg. this post is starting to sound so commercial/advertorial like. Whatever, good nights!

AFA Day One !
Anime Festival Asia came and ended with a blast! Sorry this entry came slightly late, life was seriously consuming me.
Picture taken by Sakurazaki naoki
So much to talk about! I was one of Cospa’s booth girl on Day 1 so I didn’t get to walk around as much. But it was an eye opening experience and I especially love playing the Ja-Ken-Pon Game with everyone! It was the highlight of the job and pretty much….the only useful things we could do as a Booth Girl |||oTL
I’m so not used to being a Vase =\
But anyway, coming back. I thought it was pretty cool how the usually bashful singaporeans could open up and
dance/play along with us. I guess that’s what make events like these fun! We can cast our stringent masks and discipline aside to enjoy and indulge ourselves a little =)
If you missed our Ja-Ken-Pon Session the 2 days at AFA, you might wanna check out this video.
Danny Choo and Alodia joined us at the last game of the day. We were supposed to play the game at 6pm but we started at 5:45pm instead because the two celebrities happened to hopped by and decided to join our game. So we started earlier.
Danny Choo seemed like a nice guy and Alodia is drop dead gorgeous. I don’t understand how she can wear a wig the whole day and still have some pretty , straight and smooth hair afterwards! Is it the phillippines water???
Oh, speaking of which, if anyone of you missed the Regional Cosplay Competition like I did. You might wanna check out these videos.
Phillippine: Witchblade
LED and fiberglass weapons *_* I’m sorry if I sound pervy but *cough* boobies *_*!!!!!!!!11
Singapore: Sakura Taisen
Live singing! Gotta hand it to our ladies here for daring to sing LIVE! A pity the sound system didn’t seem so good =\
I love how true they were to the real ST show and the whole stage ‘drama aura’ really brings you into the series.
Singapore: Gundam 00
Love the gundam! As a mecha, your movements are obviously very obstructed. So I think it’s pretty cool Clive could still deliver some sort of performance in that suit.
Thailand: Houshin Engi
Their pet props were soooooooooo adorable!!!!! I had the chance to touch their props backstage and their ‘sipuxiang’ were freakin HEAVY!!!! the whole thign was actually strapped and hanging from their shoulders so you can imagine the pain >.<! I think it was around 5 kg or so….
I’ve been wanting to do Taikoubou since forever but never got a chance to really do it. So I was pretty surprised to see someone do this relatively ‘vintage’ series. Much loves to people who do classics cosplay XD!!!
Malaysia: Code Geass
Hahaa… I was so not expecting a Code Geass to pull a somewhat comedic skit. I love the part where Cloud came out xD I wonder how Kaname felt watching it.
*goes to corner and ROFL*
Masako and Sizer did great with their props though its a pity the skit didn’t showcase their costumes more. Can really tell how much fun they had with the skit xD
Indonesia: Lineage II
Awesome props and costumes lah !!!! How do the indonesian do it ?!?! I’m usually not a big fan of elaborate costumes but they are totally worshippable *bows and worships*!!
Some random videos I paparazzi-ed while at the booth. Danny Choo and Alodia shaking hands with Sharon and Kenneth.
Because I was stuck at the booth the whole day and was too tired to stay for the concert, you could say I missed out many part of the event. And I missed out a lot if not almost all the cosplays of Day 1. If you missed out like me, fear not! Here is internet and Youtube to the rescue!!!
Don’t you just lurvvvveee broadband and Web 2.0 ?????? xDDDD
Gonna end this entry with a video some of you guys might have already seen at my Youtube Channel xD.
I was soooo frikin tired I was doozing off… not KNOCKING out on the train back home! I tried to watch the videos I captured on my camera but within 6 seconds of playing it my heads were already dropping!
In case you’re interested, my schedule that day was. Sleep 3am in the morning, rushing Day 2 costume and woke up 6am in the morning. Did my basic make up at home, then went down to Suntec. Started booth work around 10am (late T_T). After that, it was near 8 hours of standing. We did seat down time to time and had our lunch break of course, but it was still a very physically straining job. So yeah…. could barely lift my eyes!
More about the event at my next entry I guess. For now…time to sleep!
